Students sensitised to road safety

CHANDIGARH:The Chandigarh Traffic Police in collaboration with the Citizen Awareness Group, Chandigarh, and Consumer Voice observed World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident Victims at the Children Traffic Park in Sector 23 here today.

Chandigarh, November 18

The Chandigarh Traffic Police in collaboration with the Citizen Awareness Group, Chandigarh, and Consumer Voice observed World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident Victims at the Children Traffic Park in Sector 23 here today.

More than 150 citizens and NSS students of DAV College Sector 10, here took part in the event. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives in road accidents. It was followed by a candle march.

Inspector Sita Devi sensitised the students to road safety during the event. Road accident victims, who were also invited, shared their experiences about accidents.

Traffic marshal Dharminder Chabra, who lost his three family members - his elder brother, niece and aunt - in a fatal accident near Kurukshetra in 1985, also shared his experience. He narrated: “We were returning to Chandigarh from Delhi after attending a family function. It was around 4 am when a tractor-trailer hit our car from the rear. I lost my three family members in the mishap”.

“Everyone should save the life of people by helping road accident victims. People should also follow the traffic rules,” he said.
