Students showcase talent at Panjab University cultural festival

The Department of Environment Studies (DES), Panjab University, along with the DES SCA Joint Secretary, organised a cultural fest ‘Arambh’ at the Law Auditorium on Monday. Students showcased their talent through music and dance performances at the programme that was inaugurated by Shimla MP Suresh Kumar Kashyap, who was chief guest on the occasion.

Chopal MLA Balbir Singh Verma, Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi, former Nalagarh MLA KL Thakur and ABVP north zone organising secretary Gaurav Attri were guests of honour.

The fest featured a range of cultural performances by the students, drawing enthusiastic participation and audience response. Organisers said the event aimed to encourage creative expression and strengthen campus engagement through cultural activities.

Ronak Mela kicks off at university

Ronak Mela-2026, being organised by PU-ISSER, began at the ISSER complex, Panjab University, with cultural and literary performances by students.

Una MLA Satpal Satti inaugurated the festival. Addressing the gathering, Satti recalled his days at Panjab University in the 1990s before entering electoral politics. He spoke on student politics, stressing that leadership must remain grounded and connected to social issues.

Later, Sanjay Tandon, co-incharge, Himachal Pradesh BJP, spoke about GenZ’s role in development, defining leadership as collective effort.

The Day 1 featured poetry, solo and group songs, a group nati by ISSER students, a bhangra-giddha mix by first-year students, an open stage event and interactive sessions.

A handmade jewellery stall owner from the department said preparations for the programme began two weeks ago.
