Tandon attends NGO’s event, protest follows

Chandigarh, July 24

Farm activists and members of the local Pendu Sangharsh Committee today protested against former BJP city chief Sanjay Tandon’s visit to Khuda Ali Sher. The security in the village was beefed up and the area around the school where Tandon was visiting was cordoned off. About 15 shops on that road were closed, said local residents.

“From about 8 am to 2 pm, the village was locked down. We got to know of the function only in the morning as none of the villagers was made part of the function, which was apparently organised by an NGO in the village school. Not even a single kid from the village was invited or made part of that function,” said Gurpreet Singh Somal, general secretary, Pendu Sangharsh Committee.

“About 300-400 police personnel were deployed there and we raised slogans and waved black flags to protest Tandon’s visit, as per a call of the SKM, far away from the venue, which was barricaded.” — TNS
