Chandigarh: Tanvi Brain Bee city champion
Sacred Heart student cleared multiple rounds of rigorous oral questioning
Girls outperformed boys at the 17th Chandigarh Regional Brain Bee, organised by the Department of Neurology, PGIMER, in collaboration with the Indian Brain Bee and the Society for Neuroscience, at the Advanced Eye Centre auditorium on Friday.
Tanvi, a student of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, emerged as the champion after clearing multiple rounds of rigorous oral questioning. Khanak of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh, secured the first runner-up position, while Mehtab Kamal Singh from Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, was declared the second runner-up.
The competition saw participation from 20 class 11 students drawn from schools across the Tricity. Following a written elimination round, 12 students qualified for the final stages of the contest.
The event was presided over by PGIMER Director Prof Vivek Lal, while Prof Dheeraj Khurana coordinated the programme. The jury comprised Prof Rajesh Chhabra (neurosurgery), Prof Shubh Mohan Singh (psychiatry) and Prof Parampreet Singh Kharbanda (neurology). The quiz sessions were conducted by Dr Kshipra Nilkanth, Senior Resident, Neurology.
The Brain Bee, founded in 1999 by Prof Norbert Myslinski, is a three-tier competition designed to encourage school students to pursue neuroscience. Participants are tested on subjects, including memory, intelligence, stress, emotions and neurological disorders.
As the regional winner, Tanvi will represent Chandigarh at the National Brain Bee to be held in Bengaluru in April. The national champion will go on to represent India at the International Brain Bee in Boston, USA, in July.
