The UT Transport Department has decided to provide financial relief to the public transport vehicles, which could not ply during the lockdown period.
A notification issued by Mandip Singh Brar, Secretary, Transport, stated that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Home Affairs had on March 24, 2020, had issued directions to the UT, which resulted into non-plying of public service vehicles, including e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, maxi cabs and motor cabs, and also restricted the movement of goods vehicles, thereby adversely affecting the income of the transport sector.
The notification stated that in order to provide financial relief to the transport sector, the UT Administrator is pleased to exempt the Motor Vehicle Tax in respect of commercial vehicles, stage carriage buses, tourist buses, education institute, school and college buses, mini-buses, maxi cabs, three-wheelers and goods vehicles from March 23 to May 19, 2020.
Meanwhile, the Transport Department also exempted all vehicles of the Municipal Corporation from the liability to pay road tax with immediate effect.
