Teen, minor held for stabbing Nepalese national to death
The police have arrested an 18-year-old youth and apprehended a juvenile
for allegedly killing a Nepalese national after snatching money from him in December last year.
The victim, Yash Prasad Suvedi, had been targeted near the Kansal village in Nayagaon on the night of December 26, 2024.
The 18-year-old arrested accused has been identified as Khudda Ali Sher resident Harinder Singh. He and the juvenile were nabbed from a hotel in Nayagaon on Friday and the latter has been sent to a correction home.
The knife used in the crime has also been recovered from them.
The pobe officials said that an unidentified body with two stab wounds on the neck and the head had been found in the fields of Kansal three days after the murder.
The accused had allegedly attacked the Nepalese national with the motive to snatch money from him. As he resisted the snatching attempt, the two murdered him.
The victim’s son had identified the body at the Kharar hospital later.
According to the information, the accused had committed two snatching events that night, in both cases Nepalese national were their victims.
While Suvedi, a peon in his late 50s, died in the incident, the other victim, Nemraj, had lost his phone and purse to the snatchers but escaped unharmed.
The police team probing the case tracked the accused down by tracing one of the phones that they had snatched.
Sharing further details, Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Jyoti Yadav said, “The knife used in the crime has been recovered. Two cases of snatching have been solved in the preliminary investigation. Further probe is on.”
A murder case had earlier been registered at the Nayagaon police station on December 26. The accused were produced in the court today and sent to a two-day police remand.
