Chandigarh: Four unknown persons stole eatables and ghee after breaking the locks of a Vita booth in Sector 48. According to the police, the complainant, Vineet Sood, reported that four-kg ghee and other eatables were stolen from the booth on December 10. A case has been registered at the Sector 49 police station. The police have started investigating it. TNS

Youth held with heroin

Kharar: The Kharar Sadar police have arrested a youth, Pardeep Saini, a resident of Zirakpur, following the recovery of 10 grams of heroin from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him. According to information, ASI Balbir Singh was present near Santemajra village when the youth came in an auto. On seeing the police, he became nervous. On suspicion, the police stopped him for checking. During the search, 10 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. OC

Milk samples tested at camp

Kharar: A camp was organised by the Dairy Development Department under its milk consumer awareness campaign at Ward No. 8 here on Wednesday. Under the supervision of Darshan Singh, dairy technologist, 41 milk samples brought by consumers were tested. Out of these, five samples were found adulterated with water. The organisers informed the consumers about the importance of milk. OC

Plastic bottles banned

Chandigarh: In view of the health hazard, plastic bottles have been banned in meetings and conferences at the PGI. Following the directive of the Family Welfare and Health Ministry, the PGI has banned the use of plastic bottles. PGI officials said canteens would continue to serve bottles as there is no alternative to that. “The order will be implemented and officials concerned have been asked to dispense with plastic bottles in meetings and conferences here,” said a PGI official. City Mayor lays stone

Chandigarh: City Mayor Davesh Moudgil laid the foundation stone of work to strengthen the sewerage system in Sector 47-C here on Tuesday. The Mayor said there were about 567 households in Sector 47-C, which were facing problems due to frequent blockage of sewerage. He said to strengthen/ rehabilitation of the existing sewerage network in multi-storied LIG houses, estimate for the work was approved amounting to Rs 1.25 crore. The work will be completed within six months. TNS
