The UT police have arrested three thieves, who had recently escaped from a drug de-addiction centre, for stealing Rs 20,000 and important documents from a house in Kajheri village, Sector 52, here, while the owner had gone for a morning walk.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Charan Kamal Singh Saini (29), a resident of Patiala district, and Tajinderpal Singh (29) and Amrinder Singh (28), both residents of Ludhiana.
The police said the accused had taken a hotel on rent in Kajheri after which they conducted a recce of the area to locate the house that was found locked.
The trio had committed theft at the house of Owais Mushtaq a resident of Kajheri village in Sector 52 here. Mushtaq reported that he had gone for a morning walk on March 20. On returning home, he found locks of the door broken and the house ransacked.
The complainant’s purse containing cash, ATM cards and important documents were stolen from the house. The police were informed following which a case was registered at the Sector 36 police station.
Accused are drug addicts
The police said the accused were drug addicts and they had recently escaped from a drug de-addiction centre in Patiala. The accused then started committing thefts to purchase drugs.
Trio used to stay in hotel
The accused used to stay in a hotel and conduct recce of the nearby areas. The accused then targeted locked houses and PGs.
Thieves strike at shop in Maloya
Chandigarh: A theft incident was reported at a shop in Maloya on the intervening night of March 19 and 20. According to the police, Krishan Kumar Garg reported that an unknown person had stolen cash and other valuables from his shop at Maloya colony. The police were informed about the incident following which a case has been registered at the Maloya police station and an investigation has been initiated. TNS
