CHANDIGARH:Top seed Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu packed off Delhi’s Sanket Tomar in straight sets to ease into the men’s second round in the CLTA-AITA National Ranking tennis Championship here on Monday.

Top seed Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu packed off Delhi’s Sanket Tomar in straight sets to ease into the men’s second round in the CLTA-AITA National Ranking tennis Championship here on Monday. Mayur won 6-4 6-4.  

Another Tamil Nadu player and former Davis Cupper VM Ranjeet edged out city lad Calvin Golmei 6-2 6-4 in the opening round. Third seed Dalwinder Singh of Punjab humbled Gujarat’s Megh Bhargav Patel 6-2 6-3, while fourth seed Suraj Prabodh of Karnataka downed Uttarakhand’s Drona Walia 6-3 6-1. 

Haryana’s Jagmeet Singh had an easy first round outing against Delhi’s Kartik Sharma. The fifth seed won 6-1 6-3. Sixth seed Neeraj Yashpaul ousted Mohit Bondre of Gujarat 6-1 6-2 and Delhi’s Garry Tokas beat Oges Theyjo J of Tamil Nadu 6-4 7-6(7). 

Seventh seed Karan Singh rallied from a set down to beat Mohit Bhardwaj in the opening round. Karan lost the first set 4-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-1 6-0. 

Gujarat’s Udayan Bhakar eased into the second round with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 win over also Raghav Jaisinghani of Madhya Pradesh, while LR Balaji of Tamil Nadu registered a 7-6(3) 7-5 win over Karnataka’s Abhimanyu Vannemreddy. Atharva Sharma of Maharashtra drubbed Pranash Babu of Tamil Nadu 6-1 6-4, while Punjab’s Hardeep Singh Sandhu came from behind to beat Telangana’s Macherla Theertha Shashank. 

Sandhu after losing the opening set 2-6, won the next two 6-2 6-2 to stay alive in the competition. 

Salsa upsets Vanshika 

Maharashtra’s Salsa Aher, meanwhile, continued to impress everyone with her performance. The 13th seed dumped second seed Vanshika Chaudhary of Uttar Pradesh 6-2 6-1 to book a place in the women’s second round. 

On Sunday, Salsa had registered a 6-0 6-1 win over top seed Chandana Potugari to qualify for the main draw. 

Third seed Kashish Bhatia of Delhi registered a 6-2 6-2 win over state-mate Kiran Kalkal. Fourth seed Sravya Shivani C of Telangana humbled Maharashtra’s Sandeep Tamhankar 6-1 6-4, while fifth seed Renne Singhla of Haryana drubbed J&K’s Prinkle Singh 6-0 6-2. 

Sixth seed Prerna Bhambri edged out Ritu Ohlyan in the opening round. Prerna won 6-0 6-1. Andhra Pradesh’s Vutukuru Lakshmi Sahithi Reddy dispatched Arthi Muniyan of Tamil Nadu 6-2 6-2, while Punjab’s Sarah Dev bounced back from a set down to defeat UP’s Kaavya Sawhney in an intense first-round match at the CLTA Complex.   

Sarah lost the opening set 3-6, but gathered herself in time to pocket the next two sets 6-2 6-3 to move into the next round.
