Top seed Sacchitt Sharrma of India overcame USA’s Adit Sinha in an intense three-setter to move into the boys’ quarterfinals in the ITF Juniors Circuit (Grade-III) Championship, at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here, on Wednesday.
Sharrma won the opening set 6-3, but Sinha managed to come back into the match with a 7-6(3) win in the second set. The Indian, though, kept his poise and sealed the decider 6-2 to stay alive in the competition.
Second seed Stijn Pel of the Netherlands registered a 6-4 6-1 win over Chinese Xiaofei Wang, while fourth seed Dev Javia of India downed Singapore’s Ethan Kai Xin Lye 6-3 7-6(5) in the pre-quarterfinals.
Madhwin Kamath stunned fifth seed Alexander Gaponenko of Israel 6-4 6-3 to make it to the last-eight.
Eighth seed Roi Ginat of Israel edged out the Dutch Niels Visker 7-6(9) 6-4, while
Belgium’s Raphael Collignon rallied from a set down to upset seventh seed Guy Den Ouden of the Netherlands.
Collignon lost the first set 4-6, but fought hard to seize the next two sets 7-6(3) 7-5 to stay on course for a place in the semifinals. Michael Francis Eala of the Philippines ousted local contender 6-1 6-4.
Sandeepti sails ahead
Sandeepti Singh Rao continued her impressive run with a 6-1 6-1 victory against Indian counterpart Farhat Aleen Qamar in the pre-quarters.
Second seed Mai Napatt Nirundorn of Thailand drubbed Jagmeet Kaur Grewal 6-2 6-2, while another Thai player, Lunda Kumhom, overcame Chinese Xinyue Hu 6-2 4-6 6-4. Fourth seed Melissa Boyden of the Netherlands beat Sevil Yuldasheva of Uzbekistan 6-2 4-6 7-5 to book a place in the quarterfinals.
Sixth seed Holly Fescher of Britain packed off Yu-Yun Li 6-1 6-2 and Nikita Vishwase humbled Belgium’s Tilwith Di Girolami 7-5 6-2.
Lalami-Sharrma in semis
Top seed pair of Laaroussi Lalami Y and Sacchitt Sharrma reached the boys doubles semifinals with a hard fought 4-6 6-0 (10-7) win over the Dutch pair of Fons Van Sambeek and Niels Visker.
Third seeds Roi Ginat and Sahar Simon of Israel overcame Thailand’s Credit Chaiyanrin and Natthayut Nithithananoint 6-3 2-6 (10-8), while Nishant Dabas and Kabir Hans downed their Indian counterparts Shashikant Rajput and Uddayvir Singh 6-1 6-3 to stay in contention for a place in the final.
Priyanshi-Rutuja advance
Meanwhile, the Indo-US pair of Priyanshi Bhandari and Rutuja Chaphalkar stunned top seeds Weronika Baszak and Holly Fischer 6-2 7-5 to march into the girls doubles semifinals.
Meshkatolzahra Safi and Shuoran Wang came from behind surprise second seed pair of Malikaa Marathe and Mai Napatt Nirundorn 4-6 6-3 (13-11), while Lunda Kumhom and Yu Yun Li registered a 6-4 6-4 win over Melissa Boyden and Sevil Yuldashva.
Anastasia Astakhova and Jiagi Huang drubbed Xinyue Hu and Yijia Jiao 6-0 6-1 to march into the semifinals.
