Transformer, poles damaged in Panchkula

PANCHKULA: While squall last night caused massive destruction to government and private properties in Chandigarh and Mohali, there was no major loss of life and property due to the weather upheaval here.

While squall last night caused massive destruction to government and private properties in Chandigarh and Mohali, there was no major loss of life and property due to the weather upheaval here. 

Power supply, however, was hit for five to six hours as winds brought down electricity poles and a couple of transformers.

A power cable reportedly fell in Industrial Area. Electricity wires too were snapped,  disrupting supply. Sanjeev Kumar, SDO in Industrial Area and Sector 15, more than 12 poles were damaged. 

A transformer came down in Sector 15, causing disruption of power supply in the area. A transformer in Sector 10 developed a technical snag. The department officials made franctic efforts to correct the fault. The SDO said power supply had been restored in most areas. According to the DC, 

Dr Balkar Singh, no loss to life or property was reported. — TNS
