Tribune Impact: Quality control officials inspect deteriorating Dera Hansali Road
Collect samples from 11 spots for lab examination
Punjab Government’s quality control team from Chandigarh, led by Superintendent Engineer Mohit Batra, inspected the deteriorating Dera Hansali Road and took samples from 11 spots today.
Chandigarh Tribune had highlighted in its columns on Saturday that the recently carpeted 11-km stretch of the Dera Hansali Road, built at a cost of Rs 11 crore, had started wearing off — raising concern over the quality of materials used. This stretch was built just before the commencement of the Shaheedi Sabha.
Batra said that samples had been taken from 11 spots along the stretch and would be tested in a lab. He added that the contractor, under the supervision of the department concerned, was working on repairing the parts of the road that were facing structural issues.
This stretch is to be maintained by BS Builders, Dirba, for five years. Batra informed that the contractor would receive payment only after the work was found to be satisfactory.
Jasdeep Singh, Executive Engineer, Punjab Mandi Board, Patiala, said that Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner had also sought a report on the road. Singh said that to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles diverted from Fatehgarh Sahib, only the base layer and the stretch was opened for traffic. The second layer is to be laid in April.
Further, Gurwinder Singh Dhillon, Chairman, Market Committee, Sirhind, has written to the CM to ascertain how the project got assigned to SDO Mandi Board Patiala when it should have gone to SDO Fatehgarh Sahib.
