Tributes paid to police martyrs

The UT police organised commemoration parade in the memory of police martyrs in Sector 17 here today.

On October 21, police officials remember their colleagues who laid down their lives in the line of duty. On this occasion, a two-minute silence was observed in the memory of police martyrs who sacrificed their lives.

UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale and other police officers paid homage to their departed colleagues at the Martyrs Memorial site. Family members of the slain martyrs were also present.

From September 2018 to August 2019, a total of 292 police officers and police personnel from paramilitary police forces and police organisations have set exemplary examples before their colleagues by sacrificing their lives during duty.

Six policemen - Inspector Jagjit Singh, Inspector Sucha Singh, Sub-Inspector (SI) Amarjit Singh, ASI Amarjit Singh, ASI Lalu Ram and ASI Amin Chand - have laid down their lives while discharging their duties, since Chandigarh Police’s inception in the year 1966.

Homage paid

Chandigarh: Police Commemoration Day was observed by the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) at its Hallo Majra campus here on Monday to pay homage to martyrs of all police organisations in the country. K Vijay Kumar, Inspector-General, North-Western Sector, CRPF, addressed the officers and jawans of the force. Names of all martyrs from Central paramilitary forces and state police forces who sacrificed their lives while discharging their duties during the past year were also read out. Highlighting the significance of the day, Vijay Kumar said on October 21, 1959, a small CRPF party was patrolling in the area of hot springs in Ladakh. It was ambushed by a large contingent of Chinese army and 10 CRPF men were killed. In order to commemorate their sacrifices, the day is observed as Police Commemoration Day every year by all Central and state police forces.

Two-minute silence observed

Mohali: Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal, along with other police officers, paid a floral tribute to police martyrs at the District Administrative Complex here on Monday. The Deputy Commissioner and the SSP listened to the grievances of the family members of the martyrs and assured them of early solution to their problems. They also took a vow to look after the families of these heroes. Dayalan said 35 police officers and officials of the district police had sacrificed their lives for maintaining peace and integrity. The SSP said the Punjab Police would always remain indebted to its illustrious heroes, who brought laurels to the police force through their gallantry deeds. A police party, led by commanding officer DSP (Traffic) Guriqbal Singh, presented salutation by bowing its rifles and observed a two-minute silence.

Wreaths laid on martyrs’ memorial

Ropar: Tributes were paid to police martyrs during a Police Commemoration Day function at the Police Lines here on Monday. A contingent of the Punjab Police reversed its arms and a two-minute silence was observed in the memory of police martyrs. Wreaths were also laid on the martyrs’ memorial. Family members of 38 police martyrs from district were also honoured on the occasion. SSP Swapan Sharma highlighted the importance of the day and recalled the sacrifices of the martyrs, who had made supreme sacrifice for the call of their duty. He said the Punjab Police were committed to providing every help to the families of martyrs. — TNS
