A state-level function to celebrate the 16th National Voter’s Day (NVD) was held at MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, Chandigarh. The theme of the event, organised by the UT Election Department, was “My India, My Vote”.
UT Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad attended as chief guest, along with Chief Electoral Officer Swapnil M Naik, District Election Officer Nishant Kumar Yadav, Electoral Registration Officer Amandeep Singh Bhatti and Joint Chief Electoral Officer Sorabh Kumar Arora.
The function commenced on an auspicious note with Ganesh Vandana presented in the classical Kathak form by college students, followed by a vibrant series of creative performances, including skit, mime and dance. Prasad distributed voter identity cards to first-time young voters and felicitated the best Nodal Officers and members of Electoral Literacy Clubs from school and colleges.
The calendar of the Election Department was released by Prasad and the electoral pledge was also administered. A special nukkad natak focusing on the 30 key initiatives of the Election Commission of India was performed during the event, with special emphasis on the “Book a Call” facility, through which citizens can directly book a call with their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for electoral services.
MY Bharat Chandigarh, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, organised a State-level Voters’ Awareness Padyatra in association with the NSS Unit of Panjab University. A total of 756 young voters actively participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment to democratic values through the Voters’ Pledge, Shapath Chakras, and felicitation of first-time voters with badges.
Mohali:
Addressing the state-Level function of the NVD organised at Amity University, Sector-82, Mohali, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra underlined the inseparable relationship between Jantantra and Loktantra. “Democracy is the foundation that enables all institutions to function effectively,” she said.
The CEO paid homage to Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, whose visionary leadership accorded constitutional status to the Election Commission of India. A video message from the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Gyanesh Kumar, was played on the occasion. He emphasised the pivotal role of young voters in strengthening the democratic framework and urged them to actively participate in the electoral process. The celebrations commenced with the flagging-off of a bike rally aimed at spreading voter awareness, organised with the support of 'Mitran Di Motorcycle Mandli'. A SVEEP Painting Exhibition and Rangoli displays depicting democratic values were showcased to highlight the importance of voter education and participation.
Fatehgarh Sahib:
Addressing the NVD event held here today, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind said, “It is our constitutional right to vote and use it without any greed or discrimination. The youth must fulfil their social responsibility by making their vote and using it properly so that a strong democratic system can be handed over to their future generations.”
Chief Minister Field Officer Shankar Sharma urged all voters to uphold the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections by fearlessly casting their vote without being influenced by religion, class, caste, community, language or any other temptation. Electoral Registration Officer-cum-Sub Divisional Magistrate, Amloh, Chetan Bangar was honored with a cash amount of Rs 2000 for registering the highest number of new voters aged 18-19 years in the district.
