Fatehgarh Sahib: Truck operators protest increase in diesel prices
Truck Operators on Tuesday staged a protest against the repeated increase in diesel prices, alleging that the move would badly hit the transport sector and fuel inflation.
Their union president Mohinder Singh said the government had increased diesel prices by nearly Rs 4 within just four days, which would increase operational cost and lead to an increase in freight charges.
He said prices of other petroleum products had also gone up, and the rising transportation cost would ultimately result in higher prices of food items and other essential commodities.
He said lakhs of people associated with the transport industry would be adversely affected by the repeated increase in fuel prices.
He criticised the increase in vehicle passing charges and the government’s decision to make GPS systems mandatory in trucks.
According to him, the installation of GPS devices was an expensive affair and trucks without the system would not be granted passing clearance.
