Chandigarh, May 16

Two brothers have been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, who was found pregnant in April. Later, the victim’s abortion was done at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.

The victim, a resident of Hallo Majra, was admitted to the hospital on April 23. During the check-up, she was found 10 weeks pregnant.

Later, following court orders, the pregnancy was terminated. The police said the victim was earlier unfit to reveal the names of the accused. After being counselled for several days, she revealed the names of the accused.

Inspector Gurjit Kaur, SHO of the Sector 31 police station, said the accused had been identified as Parmod (22) and Vikas (19).

The duo was earlier the victim’s neighbours in Hallo Majra. The accused were arrested on Tuesday night. The duo was produced in the court on Wednesday, which remanded them in judicial custody.

The accused worked as painters in different auto shops in Chandigarh.

To avoid getting arrested, the accused had changed their address after a case was registered at the Sector 31 police station, said the police.
