A day after a woman hockey player was stabbed to death in Chandigarh's Sector 38, the police have apprehended two juveniles for the crime.
In a complaint to the police, Ravi Kumar, an auto driver and resident of Sector 38, stated that his grandfather was the owner of a house in Sector 38-A which had been forcibly occupied for the past 22 years by his sister Tina, her husband Ravi and their sons. Despite repeated requests to vacate the property, they allegedly refused to do so.
On March 5, around 3 pm, Ravi Kumar’s daughters and nephew went to the house in Sector 38-A to discuss the property dispute matter. During the confrontation, an argument broke out between the two sides.
According to the complainant, one of the juveniles allegedly stabbed his daughter Tania in the back with a knife. She collapsed on the spot.
The complainant alleged that during the altercation, another youth attacked his nephew with an iron spade, causing injuries.
The victims were rushed to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16 where doctors declared Tania brought dead. The accused also allegedly hurled stones at the complainant’s car parked outside the house.
A case was registered at the Sector 39 police station. The police apprehended two juveniles involved in the crime and recovered the knife used in the attack.
Both juveniles were produced in court, which sent them to the Juvenile Home in Sector 25.
Further investigation in the case was underway to establish the sequence of events and the involvement of other persons, said the police.
