Two student leaders and their 20 supporters joined the Indian Students’ Association (ISA) at Panjab University on Wednesday.

In the presence of senior ISA leader Balsharan Singh Gill, Pawandeep Singh Thakral, aka Timmy, from the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Abhinav Negi from the Department of Laws and a group of 20 students from the Department of Laws, UILS and Economics joined the student party.

“We invite all student leaders of the PU to join the ISA which is working for the welfare of students but not getting proper platform to express their voice. Soon many leaders will join the ISA. We will welcome only those leaders who have clean image,” said ISA senior party leader Karan Randhawa.

“I joined the ISA as it is the only party that fulfilled all its promises in my four-year experience in student politics and always worked for the rights of students and uplift of the PU campus,” said Timmy.

The elections are held every year in September, but the student politics has already started on the campus. Earlier, the Student Organisation of India (SOI) declared its presidential candidate around two months before the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) poll.

“Parties want to start early to have more connect with the students and improve their chances of winning. In this e-age, leaders are losing control over ground so they are trying to start working early this time,” added Randhawa.
