Two-yr-old boy falls to death

Dera Bassi: A two-year-old boy died after falling from the second floor of his house at Mirpur village. The boy, Viru, who was playing alone in the house in Ward No. 4, reached the second floor and fell from there. He was critically injured in the mishap and was rushed to the Civil Hospital. Doctors there referred him to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to the injuries. Viru, son of Lalit Ram, was the youngest among three siblings. TNS

Mohali cops nab two with opium

Mohali: Two persons have been arrested with two kg of opium here on Wednesday. The suspects have been identified as Mohammad Taslim, a native of Shahjahanpur district in UP and currently living in Swaraj Nagar, Kharar, and Pushpinder Kumar, a resident of Sante Majra Colony. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against them at the Phase XI police station on January 25. The police said Taslim was working as a tailor at Kharar and used to sell the contraband under the guise of this job. Pushpinder was working at a grocery store in Kharar. They brought opium from UP and sold it to their customers in the Kharar-Kurali area. TNS

Man arrested with heroin

Chandigarh: A resident of Dadu Majra has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police with heroin. The suspect has been identified as Baldev Raj (34). He was arrested from near the Satsang Bhawan, Maloya, while possessing 5.25-gram heroin on January 26. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Maloya police station. tns

Youth held for stealing Activa

Chandigarh: A 21-year-old youth has been arrested for stealing an Activa scooter. Complainant Hans Kumar reported that his scooter was stolen from near his shop at the motor market in Mani Majra on January 21. Four days later, the complainant found one Jung Bahadur riding his scooter near the Bapu Dham light point. The suspect was arrested. A case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS
