Chandigarh, November 23

The employees of the Chandigarh Administration demanded framing of comprehensive secured policy for contractual and outsourcing workers, central pay scale and job on compassionate ground in meeting of the Horticulture Workers’ Union held at Sector 23 here today.

Ashwini Kumar, convener of the coordination committee of government and MC employees and workers, Chandigarh, said the administration had not fulfilled their many demands. Outsourced workers faced great difficulty every time the contractor was changed.

He said on the directions of the Centre, the Administration had imposed a ceiling of 5 per cent of the total vacancies on compassionate appointment, but there was no such ceiling in Punjab. There were hundreds of dependents of deceased employees who were not given jobs due to the ceiling, Kumar said. Naseeb Jakhar, president, INTUC, Chandigarh, said a number of posts were lying in the departments. The other leaders, who attended the meeting, include Raja Ram, Ranjit Mishra, Pawan Singh and Surendra Sharma. — TNS
