Chandigarh, December 2
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Badnore has asked the UT Adviser to look into the issue of less expenditure of the Nirbhaya Fund.
Advocate Ajay Jagga has raised the issue in a letter to the Administrator. In the letter, Jagga said Chandigarh was allocated Rs 7.46 crore for the Nirbhaya Fund, but it utilised only Rs 2.60 crore.
The Centre declared that it had set up a dedicated fund called Nirbhaya Fund for the implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and security of women in the country.
Jagga requested the Governor to call for a report on the status of the projects held under the Nirbahaya Fund and the amounts spent. If there are unspent amounts, then the UT should ensure to hold projects under the Nirbhaya Fund for the safety and security of women, including seminars in all colleges. — TNS
