UT, Haryana win kho kho titles

The local women team defeated Haryana by nine points and one turn to win the Senior National Kho-Kho Championship at Panjab University.

The men’s team of Haryana triumphed over Delhi by three points and one turn to claim the title. The event was organised by the Kho-Kho Sports Association of Chandigarh, affiliated with the Kho-Kho India.

In the girls’ final, Haryana won the toss and opted to defend first. The Chandigarh team scored 10 points in their inning, while Haryana managed only one point, resulting in a decisive victory for Chandigarh by nine points and one turn. Nikita from Chandigarh was declared the Best Player of the championship.

On the other hand, in the boys’ final, Haryana won the toss and chose to attack first. Haryana scored 13 points in their inning, which Delhi could not surpass, managing only 10 points. Haryana secured the match by three points, and Amit from Haryana was named the Best Player of the championship.

Justice Sant Prakash, Chairman, Punjab State Human Rights Commission, awarded the winners. Paramjit Singh Rajput, general secretary of the association, said the championship featured participation from 45 players in both men and women categories. Ranjan Sethi, treasure, Chandigarh Olympic Association, was the guest of honour and also awarded the individual best players.

Earlier, local women team defeated Himachal Pradesh by 14 points in a closely contested semifinal. Chandigarh won the toss and opted to defend. In their first innings, Chandigarh scored 18 points during their attack, while Himachal managed to score four points in their second innings. In another semifinal, Haryana defeated Delhi by six points to secure their place in the finals. The boys’ semi between Delhi and Tamil Nadu remained a closely contested fight. Delhi managed to edge past Tamil Nadu by just one point to ensure their place in the final. In the other semifinal, Haryana defeated Chandigarh by two points.
