In a major relief to employees, the UT Administration has rescinded all transfer orders issued between 2016 and 2017 under the inter-departmental transfer policy and has directed the employees to join duties in their parent departments with immediate effect. With this, over 700 employees will return to their parent departments.

The Administration had approved the inter-departmental transfer policy for the first time on March 13, 2015, in respect of Group A, B, C and D employees.

Before the policy, there was no provision for inter-departmental transfers in the UT. Officials said the policy was formulated in public interest as a small chunk of employees of sensitive departments remained posted in their respective posts for years without any transfer.

The first transfer order was issued under the policy in May 2016 in which over 350 employees were transferred from one department to another. Since then, the Administration issued over 13 orders for transfers till it was quashed by CAT on the grounds that the policy was not approved and notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The UT challenged the CAT order but failed to get any relief from the High Court, which upheld order. Later, the UTgot the policy notified from the MHA in 2018 and started making transfers under the amended policy. An officer said the UTcould again issue transfer orders under the approved policy.

Policy was okayed in March 2015
