The victims’ younger brother was waiting for his sisters to arrive and tie him a rakhi. However, little did he know that his sisters had been murdered. The victims had got a special rakhi made of silver for their brother from Sector 22.

Harpreet, a Sub Divisional Engineer (SDE) in the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA), posted in Mohali, said he was at his native village and was waiting for his sisters Manpreet Kaur and Rajwant Kaur to arrive for Raksha Bandhan. However, he was shocked when he was informed about the murder of his sisters.

Their neighbour Shahsi Bala said both victims were excited to go home for Raksha Bandhan. They even told her that they had got a special rakhi made from a jeweller in Sector 22. “They got a rakhi made of silver for their younger brother,” she said.

Their bus tickets were already booked. However, before they could leave for their home, they were murdered. Harpreet used to stay at Phase VII, Mohali.

However, he frequently visited his sisters in Sector 22.

“I had some work following which I had come to the native village earlier; or else we all would have returned to out village together,” he said.

On the day of the incident, the victims’ kin called them to enquire whether they had boarded the bus or not.

When the victims did not respond to repeated calls from their family, they asked Lucky Chawla, who stays in Sector 22, to visit the house.

The police said Chawla found the house locked from outside following which he returned. Later, on getting suspicious, the police were informed about the incident around 2 pm. The police broke open the door and found the victims in a pool of blood.
