Wait over, UT gets dealer point vehicle registration

There is no need for you to visit the office of the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) to get the registration certificate of your vehicle (non-transport) as Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore today launched the long-awaited dealer point registration facility.

Now, the file for the registration of a vehicle will be prepared by the dealer and submitted to the RLA office. The owner will get a number after depositing the road tax and the required documents at the dealer point.

There will not be any physical inspection by the RLA office and the owner will not have to go to Sector 42 for get the vehicle passed from the Motor Vehicle Inspector. Now, the passing process will be carried out at the dealer’s end only.

There will be no need for the owner to take an online appointment for the submission of the file. The vehicle owner will also be spared the botheration of standing in queues as the dealer will submit the file. The owner will not be required to to visit the RLA office for any incomplete documentation or other objections as the dealer will ensure complete documentation.

The dealers will set up a special desk where all formalities such as depositing the road tax will be completed. Once the road tax is paid, the RLA will issue a registration number for the vehicle. Under the new system, temporary numbers for vehicles will not be issued anymore. However, Badnore asked officials to make arrangements for issuing temporary numbers in cases where the owners have to wait for the auction of vanity numbers after buying vehicles.

Arun Kumar Gupta, UT Home Secretary, Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Finance Secretary, Ajay Kumar Singla, Transport Secretary, Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, KK Yadav, Municipal Commissioner, Harish Nayyar, Special Secretary (Finance), and all SDMs were present on the occasion.

Buy vanity number, get vehicle later

People can participate in the auction of vanity numbers even before the purchase of the vehicle. The applicant can book the number of his or her choice online before the purchase of the new vehicle. As per the  current  practice, it is  mandatory  to show the  documents  of the vehicle to participate  in an auction of vanity numbers.

 Dealers can’t sell vehicles sans RC

The RLA has made it clear that no automobile dealer will be allowed to sell a vehicle without issuing the registration certificate from Wednesday. Sources said over 90 per cent of the dealers had been issued the user ID and password for issuing RC online by the department and those who had failed to get it would not be allowed to sell vehicles from Wednesday. All dealers have been directed to get the user ID as soon as possible.
