Woman among four held for theft at ATS Housing Society

DERA BASSI: The police have arrested four persons, including a woman, from Delhi on Monday night in connection with a theft case, which took place at ATS Housing Society here on June 13.

The police have arrested four persons, including a woman, from Delhi on Monday night in connection with a theft case, which took place at ATS Housing Society here on June 13.

The accused — Rakesh Kumar, his wife Sarita, Rakesh Kumar, alias Chota, and Sarwan Kumar, alias Pintu, all residents of Delhi — have confessed to their involvement in the theft.

However, kingpin Rajesh Kumar of Delhi is still at large. The Dera Bassi police had already arrested accused Ashok Kumar, a resident of Dhanas village, on June 22.

Other members of the gang were arrested on the basis of information shared by Ashok Kumar during interrogation.

The police seized jewellery from the accused, including two gold rings, one gold chain, pair of earrings, and a Honda City car used in the crime.

The accused were produced in a local court which remanded them in three-day police custody.

Dera Bassi SHO Mohinder Singh said to crack the case, the city police and the Delhi police used various tactics, such as analysing the call dump data of the accused. The SHO said the involvement of someone residing within the ATS society could not be ruled out.

The SHO said main accused Rajesh Kumar and Rakesh Kumar, brothers, who run jewellery shops in Delhi, have criminal records. Rajesh was yet to be arrested, said the SHO.

Mohinder said two brothers used to commit thefts in various areas in Delhi to finance their extravagant lifestyle.

Harman Hans, ASP, Dera Bassi, lauded the police efforts. He said in the past few months, the police have been able to solve several such theft cases.

On the night of June 13, Rakesh Kumar, along with Ajay and Chota, scaled the wall of the housing society and targeted two locked flats and decamp with cash and jewellery.
