Woman hangs self at home

Chandigarh: A 29-year-old unmarried woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Sector 30 on Saturday. According to Rekha’s parents, she was upset as she could not get selected as a lecturer in a job interview on Friday. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. TNS

Youth dies inhit-and-run

Chandigarh: Akash (20) of Sector 28 was killed after his bike was hit by a vehicle on the road separating Sectors 18 and 19 on Friday night. The police said he was not wearing a helmet. They received information about the accident around 1.15 am. Akash helped his father in his transport business. TNS

One held with10-gm heroin

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a resident of Sonepat (Haryana) with heroin here. Yogesh, a resident of Nirthan village in Sonepat district, was nabbed with 10 gm of heroin from near government school in Sector 36-D on Friday. The police said a case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect at the Sector 36 police station and investigation was in progress. TNS

Husband booked for assault

Chandigarh: The police have booked a man for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his wife. In a complaint to the police, a woman alleged that her husband Gulshan Bajaj, a resident of Sector 56, quarrelled and beat her up at their residence on April 25. The victim stated that she suffered injuries and took treatment from Government Multi Speciality Hospital, Sector 16. The police said a case under Section 325 of the IPC was registered against the husband. TNS
