Woman impersonating Ropar SDM in police net

The Badali Ala Singh police have arrested a woman for allegedly impersonating the Ropar SDM and recovered a fake identity card and forged documents from her mobile phone. She has been identified as Manveer Kaur, a resident of Mehmadpur village.

Arshdeep Singh, SHO, said Sarbjit Kaur, Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO), Khera block, had complained to the police that she had received a letter from the SDM office, Fatehgarh Sahib, stating that the peepal tree in Salempur village should be cut down completely and the instructions written in the letter should be followed strictly. She said when the letter was checked it was found to be fake as the SDM office denied writing any such letter.

The SHO said the police registered a case against unidentified persons and started investigation. It was found during probe that the fake letter was sent by Manveer Kaur to BDPO through the post office and she was arrested.

The SHO said during investigating it was found that she had duped people of several villages and when anyone demanded the money back, she claimed to be the SDM Ropar and thus hoodwinked them. She was also preparing for the Civil Services examination. He said apart from this, she had also created a drama about herself being SDM Ropar and got several news items published in vernacular papers with photographs honouring her.
