Punjab women panel takes suo motu notice on Sukhpal Khaira’s comment
Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officer will probe into the incident
Punjab State Women’s Commission has taken suo motu notice on video in which Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira is allegedly making objectionable comment related to Rs 1,000 monthly grant to eligible women in the state.
Khaira is purportedly seen making a comment that women who dance on getting Rs 1,000 cannot produce surmein (bravehearts).
Bholath MLA Khaira and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring have been directed to appear in commission’s office at 11.30 am on March 12. Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officer will probe into the incident.
The notice states that Khaira made a comment after being abetted by PPCC president Amarinder Raja Warring. The letter to the Kapurthala SSP seeks a probe by a SP rank officer and submit its report to the commission.
Khaira’s comment has generated a heat in the ongoing Assembly session where the ruling AAP, led by women MLAs, criticised him.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema targeted the Congress, calling it anti-Dalit and anti-women. He alleged that Congress leaders often use disrespectful language.
