Won't spare eateries preparing food in unhygienic conditions, says Mohali DC

Taking note of food items prepared under unhygienic conditions, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Komal Mittal made it clear that nobody would be spared for endangering human lives with such type of eatables.

Divulging details, the DC said during raid conducted by the food safety, health and MC teams on the premises situated in the Mataur area on Sunday, various samples of eatables, including vegetables and other items, were collected for investigation.

She said a piece of flesh (meat) recovered from the kitchen area, which was wrongly mentioned as dog meat, was under analysis and it would be cleared by the animal husbandry experts soon. She appealed to people to refrain from spreading rumours related to flesh piece before experts arrived at any conclusion regarding this matter.

The DC also called the SSP to take immediate legal action against culprits and start further investigation.

“The district police have registered an FIR against accused indulging in grave human negligence under Sections 272 and 274 of the BNS,” said SSP Deepak Pareek.

District Health Officer Dr Amrit Warring said, “Our team has collected at least six samples from the premises under question. Challans have been issued for violating Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. As per the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, an extensive campaign will be launched to maintain hygiene and purity in preparing and selling food items. Zero tolerance policy will be implemented against such negligence. People, who indulge in such activities, will be sent behind bars.”

The DC directed officials to check all vendors selling fast food and other eatables in Mohali. She also urged Parminder Pal Singh, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Mohali, to check unauthorised food carts and curb unauthorised slaughtering of poultry and animals.
