The one-year-long wait of around 36,000 applicants, who have been shortlisted for 520 posts of constable in the Chandigarh Police, is set to end as the written test, the final step of the recruitment process, will be conducted in September.

The candidates, who were shortlisted after a physical endurance and measurement test for the posts in July 2017, have been waiting for the Police Department to hold the written examination, which will be held online.

Confirming the development, UT DGP Sanjay Baniwal said all necessary arrangements were being made and the exam would be conducted in September. “The candidates will soon be informed about the exam schedule,” the DGP said.

During the past one year, the candidates had met many UT police officials several times with their request for conducting the written exam without delay. However, the police officials kept the applicants waiting for one year without giving any satisfactory reply.

Sources said some applicants had also met the new DGP, who assured them that the recruitment process would be completed soon.

The UT Police Department had advertised 520 posts of constable in December 2015 following which it received 2.14 lakh applications. After the physical endurance and measurement test, around 36,000 candidates were shortlisted for the written test. Of the 520 posts, 193 will be filled by male candidates, while 260 posts are reserved for women candidates. Around 67 seats are meant for ex-servicemen.

At present, there are around 6,000 police personnel serving in the Chandigarh Police.
