Chandigarh, December 25

All roads leading to Elante Mall in the Industrial Area, Phase 1, witnessed traffic jams today, leaving motorists at the receiving end.

Everyone seemed to be heading towards Elante Mall for the Christmas celebrations, leading to long serpentine queues of vehicles. During the afternoon, a five-minute drive to the mall from the Centra Mall light point stretched to almost 45 minutes, testing the patience of commuters.

Though police personnel were stationed at various points to regulate traffic, they fell short to cater to large number of visitors heading towards the mall, leading to a rush on the roads.

Vishal Dhiman, a regular visitor to Elante Mall, said it took him almost an hour to travel from the Central Mall light point to the mall. “Due to Christmas, there was a huge rush on the roads, leading to chaos and traffic snarls,” Vishal added.

Many people, who were heading towards the mall, preferred to take a U-turn due to the traffic jams.

Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sector 19, said he had a plan to visit the mall along with his friends. However, due to the chaos on roads, they preferred to return from the Industrial Area. “Rather than getting stuck in the traffic jam, we decided to return home and relax,” he said.

Snarls were witnessed on roads in the Industrial Area till late in the evening.

The traffic leading towards the Transport light point from Tribune Chowk was also affected due to a rush of vehicles moving towards the Industrial Area, Phase I.
