Yograj shines in SGGS title win at hockey tourney

Chandigarh, June 23

Yograj netted three goals to help the SGGS Hockey Club, Sector 26, win the Chandigarh State Hockey Championship title, at the Sector 42 Sports Complex here today. In the final, the Sector 26 team defeated 3BRD Air Force 5-3.

Yograj converted all three penalty corners to ensure the title victory for the side. Mohit and Ranjot Singh added one each to the five-goal tally, while custodian Achaldev Singh played exceptionally well to give lifetime to the side on two different occasions.

The CISF defeated AG Punjab 3-0 to claim the third position.

The Hockey Chandigarh hounoured the silver medallist junior men national team 2022 with a memento and cash prize of Rs 11,000 to each member, including coach and manager. The Hockey Chandigarh also honoured Maninder Singh with a memento and cash award of Rs 21,000. Maninder was part of the Indian team that won the bronze in the Asia’s Cup.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains awarded the winners.

Meanwhile, the Hockey Chandigarh celebrated Olympic Day with a cake-cutting ceremony.
