Youngsters should work for society: Chandigarh Chief Secretary

National Youth Day was today observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Chandigarh Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad was the chief guest at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, where National Youth Day was observed.

A special session featuring speeches, songs and poems by young speakers highlighted Swami Vivekananda’s message of strength, character-building, service and national regeneration.

Addressing the gathering, Prasad delivered the keynote address on the role of youth in nation-building. He said, “There is no age limit for learning. A person can continue to learn at any stage of life.” He emphasised that individuals should not work only for themselves, but also for society, as collective efforts contribute to nation-building.

He further said purity of heart leads to self-confidence.

Highlighting Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, Prasad said, “God is not confined to temples, churches or mosques, but resides in everyone’s heart and is present everywhere. Therefore, serving humanity is equivalent to serving God.” He stressed upon Swamiji’s clarion call, “Arise, awake, and stop not till you achieve your goal.”

To mark the occasion, the Chandigarh NSS Cell, Education Department, in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, organised a blood donation camp in Chandigarh. The camp was inaugurated by Dr Radhika Singh, Director Higher Education, UT.
