Chandigarh: A 26-year-old youth has been arrested for robbing a man of a mobile phone, documents and Rs 220. His two accomplices are yet to be arrested. According to the police, Shyam Sunder, who works at a sweets shop in Sector 44, reported that he had gone to Burail to meet his brother-in-law on June 22. While returning, three unidentified persons stopped him near a temple in Sector 44 and started thrashing him. The suspects robbed him of cash, Aadhaar card and a mobile phone. He informed the police following which one of the suspects, Arun Kumar, a resident of Sector 45, was arrested. A case under Sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS
Five arrested for gambling
Chandigarh: Five persons have been arrested for gambling. The police seized Rs 30,220 from them. The police said Sanjiv (34), a resident of Kharar, Ravi Rana (33), a resident of Sector 51, Kamal, a resident of Behlana, Manoj, a resident of Sector 52, and Dalbir of Burail village were arrested while gambling at Sector 45 on June 22. The police seized the cash and playing cards from them. A case against them was registered at the Sector 34 police station. All of them were arrested and later released on bail. TNS
Juvenile held for raping minor
Ambala: The Barara police have nabbed a juvenile for allegedly raping his uncle’s minor daughter, on Sunday. The suspect was produced before a court, which sent him to a juvenile home. According to information, the 17-year-old boy had allegedly raped the 12-year-old girl a couple of months ago. On the night of June 22, a case was registered at the Barara police station after the minor reported the matter to her mother. Woman hangs self to death
Ambala: A 26-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in King Vihar colony of Dhulkot, Ambala, on Sunday. Monika was found hanging by her family members. The police have recovered no suicide note. Sub-Inspector Om Prakash said: “We got information around 2:30 pm that a woman has committed suicide. The family informed that the girl was mentally upset for the past few months. The post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday.” TNS
