Chandigarh, September 21

A local court held a 23-year-old guilty in a case of kidnapping and rape of a minor girl today. The convict has been identified as Pappu Kumar Thakur of Burail village. The quantum of sentence will be announced on Wednesday.

As per the police, on August 21 last year, a 36-year-old woman approached the police stating that her 16-year-old daughter had left home on August 16 without informing anyone in the family. They tried to find her but in vain. Thereafter, they approached the police. The victim’s mother had told the police that she suspected that someone had kidnapped her daughter. On her complaint, the police had registered an FIR under Section 363, IPC.

On September 11, the girl returned home and along with her mother went to police station. She told the police that Pappu had kidnapped her and taken her to Mohali where he raped her.

The girl stated that she was dropped back at Burail on August 22 and had not approached the police immediately. The police arrested Pappu the next day and added Sections 366 and 376 (2), IPC, and Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act. After listening to the arguments, the court held Pappu guilty.
