Chandigarh: The police have arrested a 22-year-old youth for carrying 480 boxes of liquor in a truck.



Chandigarh: The police have arrested a 22-year-old youth for carrying 480 boxes of liquor in a truck. The police said 5,760 bottles were seized. According to the police, the suspect, Pushpendra Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from near the Railway light point on February 6 while illegally possessing liquor boxes. The boxes were loaded in a truck, which was also impounded by the police. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the suspect at the Industrial Area police station. TNS 

Mobile recovered from Central Jail

Ambala: One mobile phone, battery and charger have been recovered from the Central Jail in Ambala City. A case has been registered under Section 42 of the Prisons Act at the Baldev Nagar police station here on Thursday in this regard.According to the information an on-duty warder at tower No. 3 heard the sound of a packet being thrown inside the jail last night. During frisking, a packet was recovered in which one mobile phone, battery and charger were kept.The case was registered on the complaint of DSP Jail (Security) Vivek Sangwan. TNS

Motorcycle stolen

Kharar: A motorcycle belonging to Rajinder Kumar, who is a resident of a colony behind Prime City, was stolen on Wednesday evening. The motorcycle was parked inside the residence of the complainant. The incident took place at around 8:30 pm, said Rajinder. “I parked motorcycle bearing registration No. PB27E2859 inside main gate of my house. I noticed that after a few minutes the motorcycle was not there. Someone had stolen my motorcycle,” he added. The city police was informed about theft of the motorcycle. TNS

2-day Golf meet from today

Chandigarh:  The third Dronacharya DP Azad Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Championship will be held at the Chandigarh Golf Club and CGA Golf Range on February 8 and 9. Seventy players will participate in the championship, which has been categorised in five different groups — A, B, C, D and E — based on their age. TNS

Tennis c’ship from tomorrow

Mohali:  Roots Tennis Academy will host the open tennis championship from February 9. The two-day tournament will be held in U-10, U-12 and U-14 age-groups in both the bops’ and girls’ categories, the organisers said here on Thursday. St Joseph’s beat Ryan boys  

Mohali:  St Joseph’s School registered a 12-run win over Ryan International School in an U-10 cricket tournament match at The Knowledge Bus Global School. Batting first, St Joseph’s scored 100/4 in 12 overs. Kahan hit a vital 41. Siddak bagged two wickets. In reply, Ryan School could only manage 81/8 in the allotted overs. Himanshu took 2/20. In another match, DPS Panipat beat Vivek High School by 43 runs.  TNS
