A student has fallen prey to a debit card fraud after Rs 60,000 was siphoned off from his bank account.

The victim, Narinder Singh, a resident of Chandigarh, in his complaint had alleged that he came to Dera Bassi for some work. While returning back, he went to a nearby SBI ATM to withdraw money. He stated that one person was already inside the ATM when he went to withdraw the money.

He alleged that when he could not go through the transaction process properly, the person, who was already standing inside the ATM, approached him and offered to help him in withdrawing cash. Even he too could not go through the transaction process and returned his card.

According to the complaint, the victim received messages on his mobile phone that Rs 60,000 had been withdrawn from his account.

The complainant alleged that the person, who helped him in carrying out transaction, exchanged his ATM card. The victim alleged that he came to know from the bank that the money was transferred to the bank account of a woman named Kamlavati.

The police have registered a DDR in this connection. They have forwarded the case to the cyber branch for further investigation. — OC
