Chemist shot at for refusing habit-forming drug

A miscreant shot at a chemist at Eastman Chowk in Dhandari Kalan last evening when the latter refused to provide habit-forming drug. The chemist was admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.

The Sahnewal police have registered a case against the unidentified assailants.

The chemist, Mathleshwar, along with one of his relatives Varinder Rai, runs a medical store at Eastman Chowk in Dhandari Kalan. Both were present in the shop around 8.30 pm yesterday when the incident happened.

Two persons arrived at the shop and began to argue with Mathleshwar as to why did he refuse to give habit-forming drug to one of their known persons little while ago. Both threatened Mathleshwar and Varinder with dire consequences if they did not give the drug.

As Mathleshwar expressed his helplessness, one of the miscreants fired at him.
