Despite a ban on the chit fund companies indulging in money-collection and marketing schemes in the state, people continue to fall a prey to such companies as one more such case has come to light.

The city police on Sunday registered a case against three persons — Ravinder Walia and his wife Veerpal Kaur, residents of Sheesh Mahal Colony in Bathinda, and Ranjit Singh, a resident of Bibiwala Chowk Bathinda, on the charge of duping a city resident of Rs 6.81 lakh.

In a complaint lodged with the police by advocate Japneet Kapil Kangar, a resident of Bathinda, he stated that recently the accused took Rs 6,81,300 from him on the pretext of investing it in a firm, R&R group, with the assurance of doubling the money. He said let alone interest, they did not even get their money back.

Earlier, the police had registered a case against three persons — Ranbir Singh and Harjeet Kaur, both directors of Sujas Capital Private Ltd and residents of Basant Vihar area, and Karanbir Singh, a resident of Bathinda, on the charge of duping city residents of Rs 2.76 crore.

Another resident of Bathinda, Gurpreet Singh (an advocate) had also lodged a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, against Ranbir Singh and Harjeet Kaur, both directors of Sujas Capital Private Ltd, Hemant Goel, a resident of Bathinda, and Karambir Singh Kaith for duping him of Rs 8 lakh.

The city police had registered a case against Rohit Jindal of G-Four Company, a resident of the Power House Road area, on the charge of duping a city resident of Rs 8.50 lakh.
