Chandigarh has for long enjoyed a firang status among Punjabis within the state, especially the girls from City beautiful, who have been muse to numerous Punjabi songs dedicated in their praise. Playing on the oomph factor of Chandigarh is the film Amritsar Chandigarh Amritsar, with its lead stars Gippy Grewal and Sargun Mehta set to play two opposite characters from two different cities indulging in some on screen game of cat and mouse.

‘For most young guys across any city in Punjab, the general perception about girls from Chandigarh is that they have a lot of attitude. And similarly, the girls from Chandigarh believe that all the guys belonging to any other city than Chandigarh come from ‘rural’ backgrounds. Our film plays out these perceptions in a humorous way,” said Gippy, who was in city to promote the film donning his turbaned look from film. Playing a typically Amabarsariya Munda, Gippy said that the character would not have been complete without the turban. “The script did not have the turbaned character in the beginning but I thought that playing a guy from Amritsar would not have been justified without wearing a turban.”

Meanwhile, Sargun, who hails from Chandigarh, said that it was relatable to play a girl from Chandigarh. “The character I play is of a strong and determined girl, so it was somehow relatable. But I still had to bring in a lot of variations,” she said. The duo said that the film is not just all about laughs but has a good story to back up. “When we made the film, we were quite confident of its content and so, we are promoting it on a big scale as it should be. It’s a content driven film that highlights the best of Amritsar and people will definitely love it,” said Gippy.

The film is a remake of Marathi hit film Mumbai Pune Mumbai and will hit the theaters this Friday.
