Amritsar, December 4
To scrutinise the instance in which a person had entered the Golden Temple complex in an “inebriated” condition Monday evening, the SGPC has called a meeting on Thursday to increase the vigil.
It has been learnt that a Sikh dressed in ‘Nihang bana’ had dodged the security only to gain entry in the shrine on the pretext of doing ‘Ishnaan Sewa’ (a volunteer service at holy dip spot).
However, he could not escape the fancy of the devotees standing nearby. Sensing his condition, they alerted the staff members present on the occasion who took him to an isolated place.
Sources said he was handed over to the Galliara police but was later let off after questioning. Some cash and a car were also recovered from him.
Meanwhile, Golden Temple’s manager Jaswinder Singh Deenpur had summoned the staff members who were on duty then. They have been directed to report back the whole instance in writing.
Terming it as an unfortunate incident, SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh admitted the lapse on the part of the staffers.
“We have called up a meeting of managers tomorrow. Though he did not created any ruckus inside the complex, but it was lapse on the part of staff on duty that a person under the influence of inebriate had entered the complex,” he said. — TNS
