Two persons were arrested on Saturday for shooting a groom during his marriage ceremony on January 22. The groom, Rajiv, had sustained a bullet injury. Earlier, the police thought that it might be the result of celebratory fire. Now, an investigation has revealed that the accused had an old enmity with the bride’s family. The police have seized two weapons from their possession.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia said those arrested were identified as Nitin Nahar (19) of Indira Colony, Jhabal road, and Ajmer Singh (20) of Varyam Singh Colony, Gate Khazana. Two .32 bore country-made pistols along with four rounds have been seized, he said.
According to the ADCP, earlier, it appeared to a celebratory firing gone wrong, but during investigation it came to light that the accused had an enmity with the bride’s family. He said further investigation was under way to ascertain whom did they procure the weapon from. Their previous crime record, if any, is also being looked into.
