Amritsar: The Amritsar Central Jail staff recovered two mobile phones from an inmate, identified as Bikramjit Singh, alias Kulla, a resident of Tej Nagar on Sultanwind road. Assistant Superintendent Mangal Singh said two smart phones and SIM cards along with a battery were found from the barrack of the accused. A complaint was submitted to the Gate Hakima police where a case under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisoners’ Act was registered. The police said the accused would be brought on production warrant to ascertain how did he manage to sneak in the mobile phone. TNS

Tarn Taran: A team of the Sadar police, led by Sub-Inspector Amritpal Singh, has arrested Gurjant Singh of Deo village with 10 gm of heroin from outskirts of the village. The police said a case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the accused. OC
Tablets seized
Tarn Taran: Gurmej Singh and his wife Veena Kaur of Sohal village, 20 km from here, were arrested by the Chabal police with 2,700 intoxicating tablets on Tuesday. Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO, said villagers had been complaining against the “illegal” activities of the couple for long. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered. OC
