2K cops to guard city

The police have made elaborate arrangements keeping in view of the festival of Dasehra on Friday. A number of organisations will hold celebrations, burning effigies in different parts of the city. Thousands of people participate in such programmes.

Police Commissioner SS Srivastav said around 1,800 cops have been deputed for the security arrangements. He said two companies of armed battalion and two teams of armed reserve police jawans were also deputed.

He appealed to the people to pass through the barricades installed at different grounds, where celebrations would be held, and park their vehicles at designated places. DCP Amrik Singh Pawar, using his magisterial powers, has banned the bursting of crackers after 8 pm. He said crackers are allowed from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said the administration hadn’t issued any licence for storing and selling crackers for Dasehra festival. He said firecrackers would be allowed only for upcoming Diwali and Gurupurab festivals.
