At 10, when most kids her age are busy planning their summer camp activities or vacations, Inayat is busy shortlisting the books she is going to ‘drop’. She takes her job as a mini book fairy quite seriously, as she herself is an avid book reader. Her bookshelf has Geronimo Stilton, Enid Blyton and Ruskin Bond.

Inspired by the global campaign called The Book Fairy, Inayat has been dropping books at random locations to promote reading. Her mother Nazi is also a book fairy and Inayat is the youngest member of this volunteer global campaign in India.

“Inayat began dropping books at my encouragement and she also used to pick up books to read herself. She actively takes interest in picking up books that would make for interesting reads and she promotes reading among her friends and peers as well,” says her mother Nazi. Inayat also writes reviews after reading books that make an impact on her.

“Books can make you learn a lot of things,” as Inayat puts it. She has drooped books at cafes, eateries and restaurants, even public parks along with her mother.

Apart from books, Inayat also is learning kathak and bharatnatyam. “She likes to keep herself busy,” her mother says. Well, a fairy’s life is never idle!
