Every year, Armed Forces Flag Day is observed to honour the martyrs, men and women in uniform for their bravery. The day in particular is meant to contribute towards the Army Forces Flag Day fund constituted by the Government of India for the welfare and rehabilitation of the ex-servicemen.

A counter for collecting funds for the martyrs, ex-servicemen, families of defence personnel was also set up at the Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX). On the occasion, Col (Retd) Gurdinerjit Singh Gill, Deputy Director, Sanik Welfare Department, was also present.

“All of us must donate generously to the fund created for the welfare of families and men in uniform. Across the country, the collected money is utilised for the welfare of the families of defence personnel,” said Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha.

Students grade VII of The Senior Study II also commemorated the day by showing their spirit of patriotism and gratitude towards the armed forces. Students, faculty members and staff gathered at a special assembly. The assembly began with the recitation of the school prayer followed by a speech on Armed Forces Flag Day and its significance. It was delivered by students. At the end of the speech session, patriotic songs were played.

Sanjeev Dutta, associate NCC officer (flying officer), DAV College, said, “It is a great way to remember our men in uniform. The day provides a way to the common man to contribute their bit through the fund. Generally, a number of activities are also held to motivate young minds towards defence forces.”
