Chemist shops found operating sans licence

AMRITSAR: The drug wing of the Health Department discovered two illegal chemist shops running in rural areas and seized medicines worth over Rs 2 lakh.

The drug wing of the Health Department discovered two illegal chemist shops running in rural areas and seized medicines worth over Rs 2 lakh. In a raid at Baba Deep Singh Medical Store at Abdal Sohi village near Kathunagal, the team seized 47 kinds of medicines costing around Rs 1.95 lakh.

Drug official Amarpal Singh Malhi said Harbinder Singh could not produce any licence to operate the shop. He said that he also could not produce the purchase bills of the medicines which were seized.

The team, led by Malhi and comprising drug inspector Bableen Kaur, Kathunagal SHO Harpreet Singh, ASI Ajit Singh and Akhilesh Kumar Sharma, also raided a medical store at Chattiwind Lehal village and seized 31 kinds of medicines costing around Rs 25,000. The shop owner could not produce licence or purchase bills.

Amampal Singh Malhi said the medicines would be shown to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate on Monday and action as per law would be initiated against the shop owners.
