The choked sewerage in a locality near Dhora police chowki in Tarn Taran has left the residents inconvenienced. The overflowing sewage has left the streets inundated, making it tough for residents to step out of their houses. Even students haven’t gone to their schools for the last two days.
Residents say the problem is frequent. It makes people prone to water-borne diseases. Residents say the sewerage system is faulty. Besides, it is not clean due to which the choking problem arises.
The level of the sewer line towards which sewage is meant to flow is higher than its opposite direction. This is the root cause of the problem.
Jagir Kaur of the locality said the inundation at some points is knee deep, she said. Beera Singh, Sukha, Ram Krishan and other residents of the Gali Ram Krishan Wali said they brought the matter to the notice of officials many a time but nothing positive came out.
When contacted, Sanitary Inspector Ranjit Singh said a suction system (machine) would be installed to clear the choked portion.
