Amritsar, August 10

The classical renditions of Padma Shri awardee Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan hooked the music lovers at the art gallery that hosted the Swar Saanjh event on Friday. The Sitar maestro, who belongs to the seventh generation of the Etawah Gharana, left the audience mesmerised with his raga improvisations. He performed along with another celebrated artiste, Hindole Majumdar, who matched Khan’s finesse with his tabla.

The programme was held under the IAFA’s culture promotion project. Later, they interacted with the audience and music students.

“The classical traditions are gradually being overshadowed by the contemporary forms of music. The audience is also diminishing. So, it becomes important that the younger generation of classical artistes becomes torchbearers of the classical music and culture,” said Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan.

Majumdar also stressed on creating awareness regarding classical music and instruments among the younger generation to keep the traditions alive. — TNS
